AceShowbiz - Call Melissa McCarthy the new goddess of famine! After attending numerous award shows, the "Gilmore Girls" alum knows exactly the suffer to go through hours without food even past dinner time, so she made sure that that didn't happen to her friends at the recently concluded Golden Globe Awards.
The actress/comedian admits that she smuggled thirty ham and cheese sandwiches into the star-studded show which was held on Sunday, January 6. "I've been handing them out to everyone," she reveals to Variety.
According to the site which obtains a photo of one of the distributed sandwiches, the breads were from Joan's on Third, a popular restaurant and marketplace in Los Angeles. Apparently pleased with her successful attempt to feed her fellow stars, McCarthy already plans to do the same thing at the 2020 Golden Globes. "Next year, I'm bringing hot dogs," she declares.
McCarthy's act has received praises from fellow guests at the 76th annual show. "How did she get them in here?" actress Jessica Chastain wonders, "But it's a good idea because by the time you get into the ballroom dinner has already been served, and you're always so hungry."
Another actress grateful for the "Spy" star's kind gesture was Olivia Colman, who won an award for Best Actress - Motion Picture Comedy or Musical for her role in "The Favourite". Delivering her acceptance speech, she said without naming McCarthy, "Thank you for the sandwiches, amazing."
McCarthy was nominated for Best Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama at the 2019 Golden Globes for her portrayal of Leonore "Lee" Israel in biopic "Can You Ever Forgive Me?". She, however, lost the title to "The Wife" star Glenn Close.
McCarthy was not the first guest who brought food at an award show, but they usually brought for themselves. Rachel Brosnahan reveals that she usually packs power bars to power through the long show, but she forgot to bring her own snacks to the Golden Globes.
