James Gunn on Board 'Suicide Squad' Sequel After 'Guardians of the Galaxy 3' Firing

The director of the first two 'GOTG' films has been offered a chance to write and possibly direct the second installment of Warner Bros. supervillain movie.

AceShowbiz - Moviemaker James Gunn has jumped on board the "Suicide Squad" sequel months after Disney bosses fired him from the third "Guardians of the Galaxy" blockbuster.

The director of the first two "Guardians" films was let go in July after controversial mean tweets he sent years ago resurfaced.

His cast stuck by him and signed an open letter calling for his reinstatement, while Dave Bautista threatened to quit the film franchise if Disney bosses decided to rework Gunn's script following his departure.

The director hasn't worked since, but now Warner Bros. bosses have offered him a lifeline by inviting Gunn to write and possibly direct "Suicide Squad 2".

The first supervillain movie, directed by David Ayer, was critically mauled but went on to make almost $750 million (GBP570 million) at the global box office.
