Looking back to the first scary movie he watched back in 1979, 'The House with a Clock in Its Walls' actor declares that it kept giving him horrible nightmares.

AceShowbiz - Jack Black was left "traumatized" after he watched sci-fi horror movie "Alien" as a child.

The "Shallow Hal" actor is currently promoting fantasy-comedy film "The House with a Clock in Its Walls", which follows a young boy who goes to live with his uncle in a creaky old house haunted by the original owner's ghost.

Though the Eli Roth movie has some spooky themes, Jack is adamant that the flick is much more suitable viewing for kids than the first scary movie he saw back in 1979.

"I remember when I was 10 years old I said, 'I'm an adult now, I'm gonna go see a scary movie', and I really wanted to go see Alien because the commercial was so rad," the 49-year-old recalled to Entertainment Weekly. "There's an alien egg and it's about an alien. Dad, we gotta go see Alien', and my dad's like, 'Oh yeah, you're 10. I think you're ready.' "

The Ridley Scott-directed classic, which featured Sigourney Weaver, John Hurt and Ian Holm, followed the crew of a spaceship as they encountered a deadly extraterrestrial life form. And Jack's poor father had no idea that Alien would have so much dark content.

"He didn't know what we were in for. We went and we saw this thing and it was the scariest thing in the universe," the star joked. "I kept on having horrible nightmares. I was too young to see Alien, let's put it that way. That was the one that left a mark."

"The House with a Clock in Its Walls", also starring Cate Blanchett and Kyle MacLachlan, is now showing in cinemas.
