AceShowbiz - Ahead of its September 4 premiere, "The Purge" TV series reveals a first look at the upcoming horror series. The 2-minutes-and-a-half footage highlights a devout new cult whose one of the members will be willingly making the ultimate sacrifice on the Purge night.
The video opens with a woman who seems to be the leader of the blue-robe wearing cult. "The givingness is here, now we must do our duties," she tells the other cult members who are sitting silently in a blue bus. "We help sinners release their hatred. We step out of our flesh and become vessels by which we carry their sins."
"The Earth children, we reap the rewards of our selflessness and we will exit righteously," she continues while walking to the back of the bus to pick one member who will come face to face with this year's Purge night participants. As daunting music starts playing in the background, the cult leader is doing the ritual. One particular member looks nervous as the leader stops beside her.
However, she will not be the one making the sacrifice that night as the leader picks a young boy named Arthur, who seems to be extremely happy to be chosen. He gives her final hug before telling others, "I've loved myself too much. And I've loved you all too little."
He gets off the bus only to be greeted by a slew of people in masks with axes in their hands. Arthur opens his arms and smiles brightly as if he can't wait to die, while the other members are chanting something in the bus. He takes a better look at the people in front of him, and that's when the realization and the fear hits him. His smile is quickly replaced by an expression full of fear.
The 10-episode series is set in a dystopian America ruled by a totalitarian political party. The USA Network series follows several seemingly unrelated characters living in a small city, according to the official synopsis. "The Purge" is slated to premiere on USA Network and Syfy on Tuesday, September 4 at 10 P.M.
