AceShowbiz - Mary J. Blige fans are in for a scare as the singer-turned-actress has signed on to star in TV horror series "Scream".

The "No More Drama" hitmaker, who earned a Best Supporting Actress Oscar nomination for "Mudbound", will star as Sherry Elliot, the mother of new lead character Deion, played by RJ Cyler.

The show is the TV adaptation of the hit movie franchise, but the forthcoming season three will be the first to follow an anthology format with a whole new cast, centering on a star high school sportsman who becomes haunted by his tragic past.

Keke Palmer, Tyler Posey, and rapper Tyga will also feature in the Atlanta, Georgia-set storyline.

MTV bosses will air the six-episode limited series as part of a three-night event later this year, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The revamped "Scream" series also features a new crew, including Queen Latifah as an executive producer, alongside the returning horror master Wes Craven, who directed the original movies.
