The 73-year-old passed away at his home on Sunday, August 05, his manager Phil Dale confirmed.

"It is with great sadness that the family announce that Barry passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his wife Ann and all his family," he said in a statement. "The family would like to express their thanks to the many people who have been fans of the Chuckle Brothers and they know that they will share in part the great, great loss they feel."

Barry, real name Barry Elliott, and his brother Paul rose to fame after winning TV talent show Opportunity Knocks in 1967 and became known as comedy double act, The Chuckle Brothers.

"I've not just lost my brother, I've lost my theatrical partner of many, many years and my very best friend," Paul added.

Barry's manager did not give a cause of death, and requested that the family have privacy "at this difficult time".

Barry and Paul had recently filmed a new series called Chuckle Time for U.K. TV network Channel 5.
