The band take over Demi's place at the gig following her hospitalization over an apparent drug overdose.

AceShowbiz - Dance stars Cheat Codes gave a special shout-out to collaborator Demi Lovato in New Jersey on Thursday, July 26 as they filled in for the singer following her drug overdose hospitalisation.

Representatives for the Confident hitmaker scrapped her scheduled show in Atlantic City after a drug scare at her Hollywood home on Tuesday left her needing emergency medical treatment.

Event promoters for Thursday's gig managed to recruit Cheat Codes to take Demi's place at late notice, and during their set, the DJ trio took a moment to share a message of love to the pop star, who featured on their hit 2017 song No Promises.

"She cannot be here tonight," they told the crowd. "Addiction is something that is very hard for anyone to go through and we just want to say we love you Demi, we appreciate you, we love you".

The electronic musicians then dedicated their performance of their popular collaboration to the 25-year-old.

Cheat Codes are the latest artists to honour Demi with song tributes - rapper Macklemore, who has his own history of substance abuse, and singer Charlie Puth also dedicated tracks to Lovato hours after she was hospitalised.

Late on Tuesday, her representative told fans Demi was "awake" and stable, and surrounded by her loved ones.

A charity gig Demi had been due to headline in Toronto, Canada on Sunday, July 29 has since also been axed.
