AceShowbiz - Taecyeon is officially leaving JYP Entertainment after ten years with the agency. The K-pop idol has decided to sign with a new agency, 51K which houses actors like So Ji Sub, after his contract with JYP ended earlier this year.
51K says in a statement, "Hello, this is 51K. We have become a new family with singer/actor Ok Taecyeon. We are incredibly glad to be able to work with Taecyeon, who is undeniably considered one of Korea's best artists as a member of 2PM, in addition to being an actor with insurmountable potential, passion, and talent."
The agency adds, "We will not withold any of our full support so that Taecyeon can continue his activities as a singer with his artist background and the strength of the numerous fans behind him, but also so that he can display his abilities and charms in acting through various projects."
"We are very lucky to have the chance to work with the multi-talented artist Taecyeon, as we reach for the company's growth," the company continues. "Taecyeon, who is currently serving his mandatory military service, is also glad to be starting anew with 51K, and sends his vow to return with a more mature and improved image in order to repay fans for their love."
51K also assures Taecyeon's fans that the idol will remain a part of 2PM, with JYP Entertainment in charge of managing 2PM's group promotions.
JYP Entertainment also addresses Taecyeon's future with the group, saying in a statement, "Despite his move to a new agency, Taecyeon will continue promoting with 2PM. JYP Entertainment will be in charge of managing 2PM's [group] promotions."
Taecyeon is the only 2PM member who didn't renew his contract with JYP. On January 31, JYP announced that the other members, Jun.K, Nichkhun, Wooyoung, Junho and Chansung, had re-signed with the agency.
The agency said at the time, "The members agree that 2PM will be together forever. Following Taecyeon, who enlisted last year, the rest of the members will slowly be enlisting one after another. They promised that once they complete their mandatory military service, they will reunite and promote as a whole group."
Taecyeon enlisted in September 2017 and is expected to be discharged on June 3, 2019. His bandmate Jun.K also entered military on May 8 this year, followed by Wooyoung on July 9.
