The 'All About That Bass' hitmaker decides to downgrade her phone and use it to simply to text, make calls, and write emails.

AceShowbiz - Pop star Meghan Trainor has downgraded her smart phone to try and break her addiction to social media.

The All About That Bass hitmaker realised she needed to make a big change in the way she uses technology after starting off every day lazily scrolling through platforms like Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter.

"I just found myself recently waking up and spending my first two hours (on social media)...," she said. "Like, usually I'd get up early, before glam (her hair and make-up team) comes and wash my face and get ready, but I found myself just laying in bed until the very last second, just scrolling (online)".

Meghan admits the time she spent looking at various accounts online was never that productive, and instead of picking up new ideas, she would end up feeling a little sorry for herself.

"I follow so many people (on Instagram) and I just explore... like, make-up and all this stuff...," she told breakfast show Today, on which she served as a guest co-host on Monday, June 25.

"On social media, you always post awesome stuff in your life, right? So I think it's just so easy to go compare yourself for hours and hours, of like, 'Well, why don't I have that? Why don't I look like that...?'.

Now Meghan has decided to be proactive about breaking what has become her morning routine in a bid to disconnect for at least one day a week.

"I took a little break, or I'm trying to," she explained, revealing she now uses a cell phone simply to text, make calls, and write emails. "I bought a Blackberry... I found the last one...!".

"My dad was like, 'Why do you have to buy a (new) phone? You don't have to have the (social media) app,' but I was like, 'No, no, no, I want a Blackberry,'" Meghan shared. "I think it's cool. I used to have one, I love them, and I just wanted a nice, forced break of like, where you can't scroll (mindlessly online).

"I felt great, but I felt like a true addict. I've never been really addicted to anything, but I was like, 'Guys! One day off of social media!' and I'm like, 'Why am I proud of that?'".

Meghan isn't the only celebrity to take a break from their smart phone - model and reality TV star Kendall Jenner recently revealed she is also trying to curb her mobile use, while music and TV mogul Simon Cowell ditched his cell phone last summer to focus on his mental wellbeing.
