The 28-year-old singer shares he has been working on the script for two years in addition to revealing he wants Will to star in it because he's his 'biggest inspiration.'

AceShowbiz - Jason Derulo is moving into screenwriting by penning the script for a movie he hopes Will Smith will star in.

Like Will, the R&B superstar, 28, is looking to move beyond music and make a splash in Hollywood.

He's not been short of acting opportunities, having played small roles in U.S. TV series Empire and Lethal Weapon - but says he's been unimpressed by recent offers and so has been working on his own project.

"I am getting all these scripts, I don't think it's the right thing to do so I am writing my own film," Jason, 28, tells Britain's Daily Star newspaper.

Explaining why his dream is to work with Will he adds, "My biggest inspiration - and the person I'd like to watch the most - is Will Smith, because you can just watch him in anything. Whether it's action or comedy, he just always has it."

The Ridin' Solo singer joins a number of rap and R&B musicians eyeing a move to Hollywood, with Ne-Yo, Logic and Macklemore all confessing they're aspiring screenwriters and producers.

Jason believes he has what it takes to make it in Tinseltown however, as he's been working on his screenwriting for a while.

"I've worked on the script for two years and it's really starting to transpire," he adds. "It's the next step for me outside of music."

At the moment though, rather than working with Will on a movie he's in competition with him as both have released songs for the 2018 soccer World Cup in Russia.

The Independence Day actor has returned to music and teamed up with reggaeton star Nicky Jam, Diplo and Kosavar-Albanian singer Era Istrefi to record official World Cup song Live It Up, while Jason has released Colors, Coca-Cola's tournament anthem.

Both stars have more new music on the way too, as the R&B musician's latest collection 777 is due out later this year, and Will has teased his first rap tracks since 2005.
