Here's Why Kanye West Won't Wear Branded Clothes
Celebrity

The 'Famous' spitter explains the reason behind his choice in an interview with radio presenter Charlamagne Tha God.

AceShowbiz - Kanye West doesn't wear branded clothes because he believes they convey "insecurity." The rapper has made a name for himself in the fashion industry in recent years, with his ventures including collaborations with Louis Vuitton and Nike, as well as his popular Yeezy line with Adidas.

However, Kanye chooses not wear labeled clothing himself, and in doing so feels that he shows self-assurance.

"People call me homeless all the time. But this is my confidence," he explained in an interview with The Breakfast Club's radio presenter Charlamagne Tha God on Tuesday, May 1. "I don't wear branding. When I see branding, I see insecurity. And I see people buying security. Buying it back through a brand. Protection, a badge. Like, don't mess with me in high school...I got Supreme on."

The 40-year-old went on to explain that he is "not interested in high fashion" when it comes to his Yeezy designs and is instead focused on "changing the concept, the idea of luxury." He also spoke about his long-time collaborator Virgil Abloh, who he interned with at Fendi in 2009. "We ain't do s**t," the Grammy winner recalled. "We ain't get to do nothing. We were just happy to have a key card."

Off-White designer Virgil was appointed as artistic director of Louis Vuitton's menswear lines earlier this year, though Kanye shared in the interview that his friend waited until the very last minute to break the news.

"You know me, I'm wild," the "Stronger" hitmaker admitted. "He had to work with me for 10 years. My reputation is like The Devil Wears Prada. People are mindful of the way they give me information, too. He wasn't like 'I'm going to...' He laid it out in a very specific way."

However, he also insisted that the French brand's creative director for womenswear, Nicolas Ghesquiere, is the "number one designer in the world."
