First 'Venom' Poster Unveiled Ahead of Trailer Release
Movie

The official poster for the upcoming Spidey spin-off film has arrived ahead of the first trailer release tomorrow.

AceShowbiz - The official first poster for "Venom (2018)" has been unveiled by Sony Pictures. The studio has taken to the film's official Twitter account to share the artwork, which features the official logo for the movie, along with the announcement of something intriguing coming on Thursday, February 8, presumably the first trailer for the flick.

This comes after the studio unveiled last month the first image of Tom Hardy as Eddie Brock a.k.a. the titular character and some clues as to what to expect from the Spidey spin-off film, which is directed by Ruben Fleischer.

Fleischer shared footage from a panel the film was featured in at Brazil Comic-Con last December. "We wanna be as true as possible to the comics with our film, but our story is primarily based on the 'Lethal Protector' and 'The Planet of the Symbiotes' books," the director told the crowd in a video statement direct from the film's San Francisco set.

"Venom: Lethal Protector" was a limited series in 1993 written by David Michelinie in collaboration with artist Mark Bagley. Brock moves from New York to San Francisco where he's reinvented as more of antihero instead of a Spider-Man villain. "Planet of the Symbiotes", meanwhile, was a 1995 story focusing on Brock fighting an army of invading symbiotes -- a symbiote being the living alien substance that takes over Brock's body and transforms him into the vicious wall-crawler.

Fleischer is directing "Venom" from a script written by Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner. "I can promise you badass action, Venom's dark humor," the 43-year-old filmmaker told the crowd during the Comic-Con. He added that he "can also promise you an absolutely stunning performance by Tom Hardy."

Speaking about his character, which was previously portrayed by Topher Grace in Sam Raimi's "Spider-Man 3", Hardy said, "I just wanted to say that I give you my word of honor that I'm going to [do] everything I can to deliver the best Venom that I possibly can muster."

In the movie which is set for an October 5 U.S. release, Hardy stars opposite Michelle Williams, who is attached to play Brock's love interest Ann Weying, and Riz Ahmed, who takes on the role of "an Elon Musk type" lab owner named Carlton Drake. Other cast members include Jenny Slate, Woody Harrelson, Reid Scott and Scott Haze.
