Kim Woo Bin has been deemed unable to carry out military service due to his health following his cancer treatment. On Friday, January 26, his label SidusHQ addressed his official exemption from South Korea's mandatory military service.

The label said in a statement, "After Kim Woo Bin was diagnosed with nasopharyngeal cancer last May, he received his military enlistment draft notice from the Military Manpower Administration not long after he finished his chemotherapy treatments. He went in for another physical examination, and was judged as Grade 6, unable to enlist."

It added, "Kim Woo Bin has currently completed treatments and is working hard towards his recovery while going in for regular follow-up examinations. We ask for lots of encouragement and support so that he may able to return in good health."

A Grade 6 means that the examinee is to be exempted from military service because of a disease, or mental and/or physical incompetence.

Kim Woo Bin announced he was diagnosed with Nasopharyngeal cancer in May 2017 and has since halted all activities. He recently posted a handwritten letter to give update on his condition. "I wanted to let everyone know sooner, but I've been so occupied with receiving treatment and taking care of my body that a total of 7 months have passed," he wrote in late December.

The 28-year-old model/actor continued, "Thanks to all of your support and prayers, I have successfully completed 3 chemotherapy sessions in addition to undergoing radiation therapy a total of 35 times." He added that "he's gradually recovering after safely receiving treatment and going for follow-up testing."

"I've also been taking strolls from time to time and eating meals on a regular basis, and I feel that I'm gradually getting better. However, I think it will take some more time for me to greet you all. ... Through this opportunity, I will take extra care of my health and work hard to only deliver good news," the "Friend: The Great Legacy" star wrote, before concluding, "One day, I'll come back healthily as if nothing happened. I always appreciate you guys. Thank you. I love you."
