The 'Rocket Man' hitmaker reveals that the reason for his retirement is because he wants to focus on his husband and two sons.

AceShowbiz - Elton John delivered big news to his fans on Wednesday, January 24. The bespectacled icon announced in a live-streamed press conference in New York City that he would be retiring from touring. Before that, he will embark on a 300-date worldwide tour called "Farewell Yellow Brick Road" tour.

John also revealed that his health was not the reason for his retirement, but it was because he wanted to focus on husband David Furnish and two sons Elijah and Zachary. "I'm not in ill health. You couldn't do 300 performances if you were ill," he told the audience. "I don't want to miss them and I don't want them to miss me. I want to be at home. I really want to spend time with my children at home."

Despite retiring from touring, John expressed interest in making more albums. "I definitely want to make a couple more albums, but that will be easy since I can do that at home," he added. "I want to see friends. I want to spend time at my house and with my photography collection. I'm really looking forward to this tour and I'm really looking forward to the 300th date."

After the press conference, the English singer/composer told Entertainment Tonight that he had been thinking about retiring since 2015 and has been planning his last concert for the past 18 months. Thus, he promised that his farewell tour would be spectacular.

"I probably do 120 shows a year, and so this is the last hurrah, and to do that, you have to go around and say to all the continents, 'This is it. Goodbye. Thank you very much,' " he explained. "I want you too see the best show I've ever done, the most fantastic show I've ever put on as far as visually and the content. We thought a lot about it."

The tour will kick off in September and tickets for the North American leg will go on sale starting from February 2.
