Celebrity

'It was so sweet, natural and very romantic. He got on one knee,' Meghan said of the proposal, adding that she couldn't wait to say yes to her future groom.

AceShowbiz - Prince Harry and his future bride Meghan Markle sat down together in a joint interview just hours after they officially announced their engagement. The 33-year-old British royal and the 36-year-old brunette beauty answered some burning questions which people are curious about, starting from how they first met to when and how the prince popped the question to the actress.

The couple dished on the "romantic" proposal, as Harry said, "It happened a few weeks ago at here, at a little cottage. It was a really nice moment. It was just the two of us." He further told Mishal Husain of BBC News that it was when they were "trying to roast a chicken" on "a cozy night."

"Just an amazing surprise," Meghan added. "It was so sweet, natural and very romantic. He got on one knee." Meghan further said that she couldn't wait to say yes to her future groom. "As a matter of fact, I barely let him finish proposing and I said, 'Can I say yes now?' " she explained.

"She didn't even let me finish, she said 'can I say yes, can I say yes' and there were hugs and I had the ring in my finger and I was like 'can I - can I give you the ring?' She goes - 'oh yes the ring!' " Harry added. "It was a really nice moment, it was just the two of us and I think managed to catch her by surprise as well."

During a photo call earlier that day, Meghan showed off her beautiful diamond engagement ring, which was was personally designed by Harry himself. The center stone is a diamond from Botswana, a country that holds special significance for the prince. Meanwhile, the outside two diamonds are from the personal collection of Harry's late mother Diana, Princess of Wales. The band is made of gold and the ring was made by Cleave and Company, Court Jewellers and Medallists to Her Majesty The Queen.

When asked if they experienced a "whirlwind" during their 16-month relationship, the "Suits" star responded, "I don't think that I would call it a whirlwind in terms of our relationship, obviously there have been layers attached to how public it has become after we had a good five, six months almost with just privacy, which was amazing."

She continued saying, "But no, I think we were able to really have so much time just to connect and we never went longer than two weeks without seeing each other, even though we were obviously doing a long distance relationship. So it's - we made it work."

The newly-engaged couple revealed that they met for the first time through a mutual female friend in July 2016. Both Harry and Meghan claimed that they didn't know much about each other before they met. "I'd never watched 'Suits', I'd never heard of Meghan before, and I was beautifully surprised when I walked into that room and saw her [for the first time]," Harry continued. "I was like, 'Wow, OK. I'm going to have to up my game here. I'm going to sit down and make sure I got a good chat.' "

Meghan, meanwhile, revealed, "I didn't know much about him, and so the only thing that I had asked her when she said that she wanted to set us up was.. I had one question and that was, 'Was he nice?' " adding, "Cause if he wasn't kind, it just didn't seem like it would make sense. And so we went and had a drink and then I think very quickly into that we said, 'Well, what are we doing tomorrow? We should meet again.' "

Harry later added, "We met once and then twice, back-to-back, two dates in London, last July. I think about three, maybe four weeks later, I managed to persuade her to come join me in Botswana and we camped out with each other under the stars. We spent five days out there, which was absolutely fantastic. Then we were really by ourselves, which was crucial to me to make sure we had a chance to get to know each other."

However, Meghan thought that not knowing each other beforehand gave some benefits to their relationship. She explained, "Anything I learned about him and his family was what he would share with me and vice versa. So for both of us it was just a really authentic and organic way to get to know each other."

The couple also talked about the tea party they had with The Queen last month. Meghan opened up, "It's incredible, I think, you know, to be able to meet her through his lens, not just with his honour and respect for her as the monarch, but the love that he has for her as his grandmother. All of those layers have been so important for me so that when I met her I had such a deep understanding and of course incredible respect for being able to have that time with her." She couldn't stop gushing over The Queen as she said that "she's an incredible woman."

Meghan also managed to win the heart of "the corgis" at Buckingham Palace. "I've spent the last 33 years being barked at - this one walks in, absolutely nothing," joked Harry. Meghan also said that the Duchess of Cambridge, Kate Middleton, had been "wonderful" to her, while Harry said both his brother Prince William and sister-in-law Kate had been "amazing."

It didn't take long for Harry to know that he's "in love with this girl," and he revealed that he hoped she felt the same. "But we still have to sit down on the sofa-I still have to have some pretty frank conversations with her to say, 'Look, this is what you're letting yourself in for.' It's a big deal. It's not easy for anybody. I know that at the end of the day, she chooses me, I choose her, and, therefore, whatever we have to tackle together or individually, we will always be us together as a team."

When asked about having children, Henry nervously responded, "Not currently, no. No, of course, you know, one step at a time. Hopefully, we will start a family in the near future."
