Mandy Moore has found a love again, thanks to Instagram. The "This Is Us" star, who got engaged to Taylor Goldsmith last September, reveals that she first connected with the frontman for the band Dawes via the photo-sharing site.

"I took a picture of their album and posted it on Instagram," Moore tells PEOPLE. "Somehow, Taylor saw it and sent a note to me. We started emailing back and forth, then we went on a date and the rest is history. Thanks Instagram, for helping me meet my fiance!"

The 33-year-old actress/singer also uses FaceTime to stay in touch with her fiance while they're apart due to works. "We spent hours FaceTiming each other," she says. "We fell in love before we'd even really held hands or kissed or anything. It was great."

Of her upcoming wedding, Moore says it will be a "quiet and private" one. She shares, "We are both pretty quiet, private people. I never imagined myself with some beautiful dress in front of 300 people. It will be quiet and private - just for us."

"I feel incredibly understood and supported," she gushes about Goldsmith. "I feel incredibly lucky to have somebody who is like, 'I got your back.' I found the right person and I feel like we can handle anything together."

In an interview on "Today" to air this weekend, Moore also reveals her plans to have a baby soon with her soon-to-be husband. She says that motherhood is going to be the next chapter in her life "sooner rather than later," adding that hiding a baby bump might be one of the biggest challenges during production of her NBC series.

Prior to starring on hit drama and meeting Goldsmith, Moore admits that she "had a few years of just unhappiness." She opens up to PEOPLE, "From a career perspective, I felt like I was barely treading water. I was really discouraged and dismayed at the sort of opportunities that weren't presenting themselves any longer. That coincided with my personal life not being in a great place."

Of how she got her life back, she says, "I stopped, I regrouped, I got myself better situated, and six months later ['This is Us'] came around. And I was ready for it." Now that everything seems to come together, the "Tangled" star says, "I'm more grateful than I ever have been in my life. It's a very happy time."
