Def Pictures, WorldStar Hip Hop, Hunting Lane Films and Live Nation Production have teamed up for Netflix's new comedy "The After Party". Principal photography on the coming-of-age film has begun, with Ian Edelman ("How to Make It in America") writing and serving behind the lens. It's the first scripted project for Live Nation Productions.

"The After Party" follows two best friends on their last night together trying to achieve a record deal before one heads to college and the other leaves for service in the military. In one wild night, a lot will go down before the sun comes up and these two life-long friends have either succeeded on their quest or must go their separate ways.

Though the story takes place during "one wild night," it's expected to shoot for six weeks in New York, including on location at The Meadows Music and Arts Festival at Citi Field in Queens, and a live concert at the Gramercy Theater. The movie is scheduled to be released sometime next year.

Lee "Q" O'Denat, the late founder of Worldstar Hip Hop, reportedly "was inspired to develop the idea because of his love of such classic coming-of-age films 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off' and 'American Graffiti'," according to Deadline.

The project is being produced by Russell Simmons along with Jake Stein, Jamie Patricof, Heather Parry, Trevor Engelson, Doug Banker and O'Denat. Michael Rapino, Katie McNeill and Jonathan Montepare are serving as executive producers.

It stars Wiz Khalifa, French Montana, Teyana Taylor, Kyle Harvey (better known for his stage name KYLE), Blair Underwood, Jordan Rock, Harrison Holzer ("Better Living Through Chemistry", "Sex Tape") and Shelley Hennig ("Teen Wolf"). It will also feature a number of cameos from the world of rap, hip hop and comedy.
