Steve Carell, Bryan Cranston, Laurence Fishburne Are Unlikely Buddies in 'Last Flag Flying' Trailer
Movie

Carell, Cranston and Fishburne play Vietnam vets who reunite after a long separation to transport Doc's (Carell) son home to be buried in New Hampshire.

AceShowbiz - In Richard Linklater's upcoming film, Steve Carell, Bryan Cranston and Laurence Fishburne team up on a road trip to perform a sacred task. The three awards-winning actors play aging Vietnam vets with mismatched personalities, who reunite after a long separation, in "Last Flag Flying" from the Golden Globe-nominated director.

When Richard "Doc" Shepherd's (Carell) son died in the early days of the Iraqi invasion, he reaches out to his old, but long out of touch, military buddies to accompany him to the funeral. The unhinged and unfiltered Sal Nealon (Cranston) is surprised to see how much Mueller has changed from his heavy-drinking days. Mueller is now a pastor.

Problems begin as Doc opposes the plan that his son is buried at Arlington Cemetery. "You sent him off to a godforsaken desert," Doc tells a military officer as the casket holding his son is about to be buried at Arlington Cemetery. "Why? I'm taking Larry home."

And so begins the long road trip to transport Larry's body home to be buried at a cemetery in New Hampshire.

The trailer hints at a heartfelt story and previews grounded and bittersweet humor, which is everything you can expect from Linklater's movie. The helmer is known for his realistic and natural humanist films.

"Last Flag Flying" is based on the novel of the same name by Darryl Ponicsan and was published as a 2005 sequel to his 1970 bestseller "The Last Detail", which was adapted into a 1973 comedy-drama starring Jack Nicholson, Randy Quaid and Otis Young directed by Hal Ashby. Ponicsan co-wrote the adaptation with Linklater.

The R-rated drama comedy will have its world premiere September 28 at the New York Film Festival. It will open in select theaters on November 3 before having its wide release on November 17.
