Kathy Griffin regrets posing in a gory photo that depicts her holding President Trump's decapitated head. After seeing people's reactions to the disturbing image, the comedian has released a sincere apology via a video posted on Twitter.

"I sincerely apologize," she says in the video. "I am just now seeing the reaction of these images. I'm a comic. I crossed the line. I move the line, then I cross it. I went way too far. The image is too disturbing. I understand how it offends people. It wasn't funny. I get it."

She continues, "I've made a lot of mistakes in my career. I will continue. I ask for your forgiveness. [I'm] taking down the image, going to ask the photographer to take down the image. And I beg for your forgiveness. I went too far, I made a mistake, and I was wrong."

Previously, Griffin addressed the image on Twitter, saying that she doesn't condone violence and was merely mocking Donald Trump. While the 56-year-old actress/TV host has shown her remorse, Tyler Shields who took the photo says he was well aware of the controversy that would be caused by the photo.

"...the great thing about making something like this is that, look, you make it and people have their opinion on it and that's the fun of it," he tells EW. Asked if he's worried the image might incite violence, the famed photographer responds, "No, I'm never the guy that's like, 'We're making this piece of art so people are gonna go hurt other people because of it.' I always look at it like, when you make something, it makes people not want to do it. That's just me personally."

For Shields, the photo is not even about Trump, but about the freedom to express one's opinion. "I can't sit here and tell you that someone is not allowed to have their opinion. That's why I'm allowed to make this art. For me, that's more what this is about. You can have your opinion. There's the famous quote, 'I don't agree with you, but I'll defend your right to say it.' I might not agree with him, she definitely doesn't agree with him, but I'll defend my right to be able to say whatever I want until I die," he says.
