Ben Affleck and Jennifer Garner's marriage is officially over. Jennifer has filed for divorce from her actor husband, nearly two years after the former couple first announced their split. While it was rumored that the two had called off their divorce last month, the 44-year-old actress filed the papers on Thursday, April 13.

TMZ reported that Jennifer and Ben filed the papers without the aid of lawyers. The couple seemed to choose a coordinated legal strategy to end their marriage amicably. They were both seeking joint legal and physical custody of their three children and negotiating a financial settlement.

The former couple has remained amicable since their split. They raise their kids together and even take them on holiday. Though the two appear to be on the same page, Jen and Ben have reportedly planned their divorce since their separation in 2015. "They always planned to divorce despite what people said," a source tells PEOPLE. "If you look at their first statement it says divorce not separate."

The publication further asserts that the former couple wants the best for their kids. "There was no catalyst, it was just time," the source continues, before adding, "Nothing has changed, they are and still will be putting their kids first."

Following the divorce filing, Jen and Ben kept things as normal as possible by spending quality time with their kids. The "Elektra" actress was spotted dropping off their daughters Violet and Seraphina at school in Los Angeles. The 44-year-old actor, meanwhile, took his 11-year-old daughter Violet for a post-school treat, buying her an ice cream at a posh ice cream shop. Ben was seen smiling from ear to ear as he chatted with his little girl.
