Radio Disney has announced that Britney Spears will receive the first Icon Award at the upcoming 2017 Radio Disney Music Awards. The inaugural award is to recognize "a distinguished artist whose career transcends popular culture and whose music is loved by generations of Radio Disney fans."

The award will mark the return of the diva on Disney spotlight since her performances as a member of "The Mickey Mouse Club" 23 years ago. In 1998, Britney released her successful debut single "...Baby One More Time" which brought her to fame at only 16 years old. She has since earned eight Grammy nominations, and sold over 150 million records worldwide.

Six of Britney's albums debuted at No.1 on the Billboard 200 chart, and she has more than 30 Billboard Hot 100 hits. In addition, she has more than 15 singles played on Radio Disney. This is the reason why the station decides to give the Icon Award to the pop princess as she is a true icon and one of the most successful entertainers.

Phil Guerini, the Vice President of music strategy at Disney Channels Worldwide and General Manager of the Radio Disney Network, praised Britney, saying, "Having just celebrated 20 years of Radio Disney in 2016, we are excited to introduce the RDMA 'Icon' Award as special recognition of an artist whose music has been loved and adored by generations of Radio Disney fans. We are proud to celebrate Britney as the first recipient for this award acknowledging her chart-topping career on Radio Disney since 1998."

The Radio Disney Music Awards will take place at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on Saturday, April 29. Kelsea Ballerini, Alessia Cara, Hailee Steinfeld, Noah Cyrus and more will take the stage at the award-giving event.
