The former couple reportedly got the 'binding tattoos,' which are believed to help provide protection, by a former monk in Thailand.

AceShowbiz - Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt got matching tattoos to commemorate their relationship, just months before they announced their separation in September last year. According to various reports, the former couple got tattooed together by Ajarn noo Kanpai, a former monk in Thailand, in February 2016.

Jolie's new tattoos reportedly include two ancient Thai Buddhist symbols and mantras, which many believe help to provide protection. A photo obtained by ET Online shows the three intricate "magical" Sak Yant tattoos on her back.

As for Pitt's new tattoo, it is a Buddhist symbol inked on the left side of his stomach, reveals a source. The same ink was used for both Jolie and Pitt's tattoos "to symbolically bind them as husband and wife." The tattoos are believed to give the wearer magic powers associated with healing, luck, strength and protection against evil.

Jolie and Pitt got the Sak Yant tattoos when she was on a break from the filming of her new film "First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers", which has been made available via Netflix since February 18.

Since their split, Jolie and Pitt have been in custody war over their six children, Maddox, 15, Pax, 13, Zahara, 11, Siloh, 10, and twins Knox and Vivienne, 8.

Despite their difficult divorce, Jolie appeared to be in good spirits when stepping out with her children in London on Monday, March 13. She beamed as she visited a Waterstone's store while holding hands with Vivienne. She was also joined by Knox and Shiloh during the family day out.
