Arnold Schwarzenegger is reportedly trying to get back to the government. The former California republican governor is considering a run for the U.S. senate by replacing Democratic Senate Dianne Feinstein in 2018, Politico has reported.
"Several GOP political insiders in California" told Politico that the former governor was mulling a political comeback. One GOP veteran said that Arnold's entry into the 2018 Senate race "would give Arnold the stage to jam [Donald Trump] for the next 16 months."
GOP political consultant Luis Alvarado said, "In politics after Donald Trump, nothing is crazy any longer. We're in third dimension here." He added, "Arnold Schwarzenegger, who actually has more political experience than Trump, would certainly seem to fit a mold to what some of the electorate would find attractive."
The GOP political consultant also said that Arnold's return to politics would be seen by Republicans as "almost like a silver bullet" to counter the president. "Donald Trump has had the ability to manipulate all the news and cameras to him, and Arnold Schwarzenegger would be like kryptonite, or an anti-matter device, that would somehow restore balance in this universe of madness."
Meanwhile, Arnold's spokesperson, Daniel Ketchell, responded to the speculation by saying, "Right now Gov. Schwarzenegger's focus is on using his platform to bring some sensibility and coherency to Washington by fighting for redistricting reform, like we did in California. We are keeping all of our options open as far as how we can accomplish that."
The "Terminator" star has been involved in Twitter feud with the president lately. Trump recently took to the social media to address the actor's decision to quit "The Celebrity Apprentice". "Arnold Schwarzenegger isn't voluntarily leaving 'The Apprentice', he was fired by his bad (pathetic) ratings, not by me. Sad end to great show," the president wrote.
