Samuel L. Jackson defends his comments about a black British actor following backlash. During a recent interview with Hot 97 radio station in New York, the star of "The Avengers" discussed about the satirical horror film "Get Out", which stars Daniel Kaluuya as a man who dates a white American girl.

Samuel believed the film would have benefitted from having an African-American actor as its lead. "I think it's great that the movie's doing everything it's doing and people are loving it," he explained, "But... I know the young brother who's in the movie, and he's British. I tend to wonder what that movie would have been with an American brother who really feels that."

He continued, "Daniel grew up in a country where they've been interracial dating for a hundred years. What would a brother from America have made of that role? Some things are universal but (not everything is). [British actors] are cheaper than us, for one thing. They don't cost as much."

Following Samuel's remarks, John Boyega took to Twitter to slam the actor. "Black brits vs. African American. A stupid ass conflict we don't have time for," the "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" actor wrote.

Samuel later clarified his comments, saying he wasn't trying to slam black British actor when he criticized their casting in American films. "It was not a slam against them, but it was just a comment about how Hollywood works in an interesting sort of way sometimes," he said at the premiere of his new film "Kong: Skull Island" on Wednesday, March 8.

"We're not afforded that same luxury, but that's fine, we have plenty of opportunities to work," he continued, "I enjoy their work. I enjoy working with them when I have the opportunity to do that."
