Donald Trump Quotes Batman Villain Bane in Inauguration Speech, Borrows 'Purge' Line for New Slogan

During his speech, the 45th U.S. president says, 'We are transferring power from Washington, D.C. and giving it back to you, the people,' which echoes what Bane said in 'The Dark Knight Rises'.

AceShowbiz - Donald Trump quoted Batman villain Bane in his inauguration speech. The 70-year-old was sworn in on Friday, January 20, and a line in his speech echoed what Tom Hardy's character said in Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight Rises", though it might be accidental.

In his speech, the 45th U.S. president promised, "Today, we are not merely transferring power from one administration to another or from one party to another, but we are transferring power from Washington, D.C. and giving it back to you, the people."

In the Batman movie, Bane delivered a similar message to citizens of Gotham City. "We take Gotham from the corrupt! The rich! The oppressors of generations who have kept you down with myths of opportunity, and we give it back to you, the people," he said after freeing prisoners.

This isn't the only reference to a movie that Trump has made so far. Earlier this week, he unveiled his new campaign slogan which seems to be pulled straight from "The Purge", "Keep America Great." The slogan is a follow-up to his 2016 election campaign, "Make America great again."

"Keep America Great" is the tagline used in 2016's "The Purge: Election Year". Once again, we assume it's accidental.

Besides Trump's speech, stealing the limelight at the inauguration ceremony was Melania Trump and her fashion choice. The First Lady appeared to channel Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis in a custom Ralph Lauren ensemble that consisted of a cashmere cropped jacket and mock turtleneck dress, suede gloves and a suede clutch, all in sky blue.
