The channel releases a new video for the new series, which tells the story of a young woman finding her true strength and identity even as she battles to bring a divided world together.

AceShowbiz - NBC has released a preview video for its new series "Emerald City", which is based on famous tale by L. Frank Baum. The video features a glimpse of how the cast members handle the Wizard of Oz and turn it on its head.

"Our story is a reflection of society today, through the point of view of Dorothy (Adria Arjona) and our Dorothy is fantastic," said Vincent D'Onofrio, who stars as the Wizard. Meanwhile, Adria said, "I'm really excited for people to see the reality that every character has in this version. It's very different from the original."

Along the way Dorothy meets the Scarecrow, portrayed by Oliver Jackson-Cohen. "I play the equivalent of the scarecrow. Dorothy saves his life, so he will forever protect her," Oliver said.

"Our version of Oz, magic has been banned, and the wizard is controlling Oz through science, and so all the witches have been made redundant. Glinda (Joely Richardson) runs an orphanage, West runs a brothel," Oliver said about the Oz.

"Emerald City" chronicles the story of 20-year-old Dorothy Gale who is transported to another world, which is a mystical land where the Wizard governs over one kingdom. The wizard has outlawed magic and he faces not only the wrath of a growing cauldron of witches but a looming disaster brought on by a mythical force.

The series also stars Ana Ularu as West, Gerran Howell as Jack, Stefanie Martini as Lady Ev, Jordan Loughran as Tip, Mido Hamada as Eamonn, Florence Kasumba as the Wicked Witch of the East, Isabel Lucas as Anna and Roxy Sternberg as Elizabeth.

"Emerald City" premieres on January 6, 2017 at 9 P.M. ET on NBC.
