'Jurassic World 2' Will Be Both 'Jurassic Park 5' and 'Jurassic World' Sequel

Director J.A. Bayona has revealed that in addition to serving as a sequel, the movie will be connected to the original film franchise.

AceShowbiz - Colin Trevorrow's 2015 movie "Jurassic World" successfully grossed $1.670 billion and even became the fourth highest grossing film of all time. Apparently moviegoers are expecting more than just a sequel when "Jurassic World 2" opens in theaters in summer of 2018.

Director J.A. Bayona reveals that aside from serving as a sequel, the movie will be connected to the original film franchise, "Jurassic Park". "I think somehow it's both," he told Cinema Blend. "What we're doing is a sequel to 'Jurassic World', but it's definitely the fifth chapter of a longer saga. It's very interesting."

"It's always tricky, but you need to find a balance in what people expect to find, and the new stuff you're bringing to the story," the helmer continued. "And I think the story is looking for a connection between 'Jurassic World' and 'Jurassic Park' - more than what 'Jurassic World' did."

Bayona, who took the helming duty after Trevorrow stepped out of the sequel to tackle "Star Wars Episode IX", also hinted that "Jurassic World 2" would expand the story of the first movie. "I think what this film does is it's the second chapter of the story that started in 'Jurassic World', and it's open to a third chapter too," Bayona said.

He added, "It's very interesting in the way that we're approaching the story, and where we are leading the story. We're leading the story to a place that the audience is not expecting, and that's always exciting when you do a sequel."

Filming on "Jurassic World 2" is expected to begin early next year for a June 22, 2018 release in U.S. theaters. Chris Pratt and Bryce Dallas Howard are set to reprise their roles as Owen and Claire respectively. New additional cast members include Rafe Spall ("Prometheus") and Golden Globe nominee Toby Jones.
