'Deadpool 2': Two More Shortlisted Directors Revealed
Movie

David Leitch is Fox's top choice to direct the 'Deadpool' sequel, but the studio still approaches several helmers who include Drew Goddard and Magnus Martens.

AceShowbiz - After Tim Miller's departure from "Deadpool 2", 20th Century Fox and Ryan Reynolds are busy trying to find his replacement. While "John Wick" co-helmer David Leitch is the studio's favorite to be a new helmer for the "Deadpool" sequel, a new report has surfaced suggesting that the studio is still approaching several directors.

Deadline has reported that Drew Goddard, who was nominated for an Oscar earlier this year for his writing efforts in "The Martian", and Magnus Martens ("Banshee", "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.") are among the other contenders. The studio is allegedly meeting with the two filmmakers to hear their visions about what the sequel would be.

As previously reported, Miller's exit from the sequel was due to his "creative differences" with Reynolds. The Merc with the Mouth depicter wanted to make a "scrappy" and inexpensive sequel similar to "Deadpool", but the ex-helmer was interested in making more of a "stylized" sequel just like other big-budget superhero movies, which would have cost three times as much as the first movie.

No additional information has been announced regarding the official synopsis and casting. The scribes of the first movie, Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick, return to provide the script for "Deadpool 2". It's unclear if the filming is still slated to begin early next year. The movie is set for a January 12, 2018 release in U.S. theaters.
