Leonardo DiCaprio to Play the Man Who Invented Rock and Roll in Sam Phillips Biopic

Leonardo DiCaprio is expected to portray the music pioneer who helped give Elvis Presley, Ike Turner and Johnny Cash their big breaks.

AceShowbiz - %cLeonardo DiCaprio% is attached to a Sam Phillips biopic. The Oscar-winning actor is expected to take the titular role and serve as a producer under his Appian Way banner. He will co-produce with music icons including %cThe Rolling Stones%' %cMick Jagger%.

Paramount Pictures has acquired Peter Guralnick's book "Sam Phillips: The Man Who Invented Rock N' Roll" for the true-story movie. It follows the late pioneering music producer who helped launch the careers of such legends as %cElvis Presley%, %cIke Turner% and %cJohnny Cash%.

Leonardo DiCaprio played real-life stockbroker Jordan Belfort in 2013's critically-acclaimed "The Wolf of Wall Street" and another real-life character Hugh Glass, a fur hunter, in another critic darling "The Revenant" last year. During his brief break from the big screen this year, he traveled around the world to make environmental documentaries "Before the Flood" and "The Ivory Game".
