Executive producer Marc Guggenheim says Rip's disappearance is 'always going on in the background' and confirms that the Justice Society of America will return.

Following Rip Hunter's disappearance, the Legends are forced to continue their mission on their own. While the team doesn't seem to be actively looking for Rip, "DC's Legends of Tomorrow" executive producer Marc Guggenheim says, "That's going to be something that's always going on in the background and, in some cases, the foreground of various episodes."

"We don't want to change the mission statement from fixing aberrations to going and saving Rip," he adds. While the team said their number one priority "is finding Rip," Guggenheim points out that "that's been taken out of their hands in the sense that there's no way to find Rip, so what would they do? ... I don't know how they would go about it given the nature of Rip's disappearance."

While it may be a while before the Legends find Rip, the show's boss promises, "You will find out before the Legends do."

In the latest episode set in 1942 that aired Thursday, October 20, [SPOILER ALERT!] we bid farewell to Rex Tyler (Patrick J. Adams) who was erased from the timeline by Eobard Thawne (Matt Letscher). But that won't be the last time we see JSA.

As it has been known, Vixen (Maisie Richardson-Sellers) is joining the team. "I think you have a clue to it in Rex's final words to her," Guggenheim says. "I think, if you're Vixen and you've got Rex Tyler dying in your arms and you hear the words 'time traveler,' who would you think is responsible?"

Teasing the Legends' meeting with the older versions of the JSA members, he shares, "We do go back to 1987 and we'll meet a much older version of Obsidian, who's going to be played by Lance Henriksen." He goes on teasing, "That's one way. And then we have another device up our sleeves that I don't want to spoil!"

"Legends of Tomorrow" returns next week, on October 27 at 8/7c on The CW with "Shogun". Nate is shocked to learn that he has powers but then accidentally lands himself and Ray in Feudal Japan. After Sara convinces their stowaway Amaya, a.k.a. Vixen, that Rory is not a murderer, they all agree to find Nate and help him master his powers in order to defend the Japanese village from the Shogun and his army of samurai warriors.

Meanwhile, Jax and Stein stay back to help fix the ship and find a secret compartment but decide not to tell the rest of the team what they learn.
