Lionsgate has released the first trailer for "The Whole Truth". The chilling video introduces Keanu Reeves as Richard Ramsey, a defense attorney trying to keep the son of Loretta Lassiter (Renee Zellweger), Mike (Gabriel Basso), who is accused of murdering his wealthy father (James Belushi) out of prison.

"You can't let him go to prison," Loretta asks Richard. "It always sounds bad in the beginning," he responds. "They weren't taking bets on this one, Mike left his handprint on the knife, confessed," someone says in a voiceover. "But I knew enough about the Lassiters just to know that Mike had a defense."

When she shares startling revelations in court about her husband's violent behavior, Richard's new colleague Janelle (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) starts to question the claims. "What if Mike didn't stab his father?" she asks Richard. "All witnesses lie. All that remain for you to decide is why," he tells the jury.

Directed by Courtney Hunt ("Frozen River"), "The Whole Truth" follows defense attorney Richard Ramsay who takes on a personal case when he swears to his widowed friend Loretta Lassiter that he will keep her son out of prison. Charged with murdering his father, Mike initially confesses to the crime.

But as the trial proceeds, chilling evidence about the kind of man that Boone Lassiter really was comes to light. While Richard uses the evidence to get his client acquitted, his new colleague Janelle tries to dig deeper - and begins to realize that the whole truth is something she alone can uncover.

Also starring Kenneth Choi, Erica McDermott, Sean Bridgers, Ritchie Montgomery, Jim Klock and Nicole Barre, the thriller will be released in U.S. theaters and available On Demand on October 21.
