New details surrounding "Empire" season 3 have been released. While the season 2 left fans with a major cliffhanger on what happened to Rhonda (Kaitlin Doubleday) and Anika (Grace Gealey) after the terrace fight, one of them is definitely dead.

"If season one was really Jamal's season and season two was very much Hakeem's, then season 3 is gonna be Andre's," says executive producer Ilene Chaiken.

Andre (Trai Byers) will become closer to his grandmother Leah (Leslie Uggams). "Leah and Andre are the most, I guess, alike in Andre's world," Trai tells EW, "She has from the beginning seen something in Andre that she identifies in herself. It's almost like the two are looking at each other but they're looking into a mirror."

Jamal (Jussie Smollett) struggles with PTSD after he was shot by Freda Gatz (Bre-Z) in season 2's penultimate episode. He later finds himself romantically drawn to his counselor Phillip (Juan Antonio). "It's someone that for the first time gives no f***s about Jamal's fame," Jussie shares, "He just genuinely is not affected by the money, and it's a very, very honest relationship."

Jamal's best friend Becky (Gabourey Sidibe) is forced to choose between her boyfriend or Empire as he wants her to move on a new label with him. "Becky has loyalty to this place," Gabourey says, "Becky has loyalty to Lucious and all of the Lyons and she can't imagine leaving it. But she might have to start thinking about doing so."

Hakeem (Bryshere Y. Gray), meanwhile, will be involved in a love triangle between Tiana (Serayah) and her new boyfriend Gram (Lil' Romeo).

Taraji P. Henson teases Cookie's budding romance with Angelo (Taye Diggs), "People are gonna find out Cookie isn't from [the wrong] side of the tracks." Taye adds, "[Cookie] had an opportunity to be with an outstanding young man when she was younger and she chose Lucious (Terrence Howard), so I think that plays a part in her wondering if she has another chance to make a better choice."

The third season of "Empire" premieres on Wednesday, September 21 at 9 P.M. ET on FOX.
