AceShowbiz - Since rumors about X-Men TV series "Legion" being canon to the MCU spread, fans have been speculating that the X-Men will possibly join forces with the Avengers in the next "Avengers" film(s). This was fueled by the statement "Doctor Strange" helmer Scott Derrickson said during an interview with ComicBook.com at San Diego Comic-Con last month about his film being "the beginning of the Marvel Cinematic Multiverse."
While Derrickson was referring to the dark, mystical and interdimensional elements scared away from the Earth by Stephen Strange, fans were speculating if "Cinematic Multiverse" meant they could see the X-Men likely teaming up with the Avengers, or the Guardians of the Galaxy appearing in "Avengers: Infinity War".
However, the co-director of the third "Avengers" film, Joe Russo, addressed the rumor while speaking to ComicBook.com about the upcoming Blu-ray release of "Captain America: Civil War". He didn't seem to agree with it, though.
He said, "As far as we know, right now there isn't talk regarding the X-Men." He continued, "I don't know if behind-the-scenes there were conversations or if there are conversations happening but we certainly haven't heard of any."
He also addressed Spider-Man's first appearance in the MCU as the webslinger was included in "Civil War". "Sony and Marvel had a relationship through Kevin [Feige] and Amy [Pascal] and through us and Amy," the helmer said. "That's really how Spider-Man came about. It requires a certain alchemy and a very special situation for studios to share properties."
Asked if the X-Men were being considered to be included in "Captain America: Civil War" which also arrives on home video this September, Joe simply said, "There was not talk on 'Civil War' about the X-Men."
"Civil War" will be released on digital HD platforms and the Disney Movies Anywhere app on September 2. On September 13, it will be available on Blu-ray, DVD and on-demand.
Meanwhile, "Avengers: Infinity War" is set to hit U.S. theaters on May 4, 2018. As for the fourth installment of "The Avengers" film series, it will be released in the following year on May 3.
