The 'Hamilton' star is set to contribute music for the Mouse House's live-action take on Hans Christian Anderson's classic tale.

AceShowbiz - Disney is giving "The Little Mermaid" a new spin. Lin-Manuel Miranda, the mastermind behind Pulitzer-winning play "Hamilton", is booked to write songs with Alan Menken. The Broadway star will also produce the film alongside Marc Platt.

"Mermaid" is not the only project which Miranda does for Disney. He is also tapped to write songs for the Mouse House's animation "Moana" which stars Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson. He has contributed music for "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" as well.

Disney is facing competition from Universal who has announced their own adaptation of the Hans Christian Anderson classic tale. Chloe Moretz is attached to play the lead role. Sofia Coppola was originally tapped to serve behind the lens, but she later backed down due to "artistic differences."
