Harington reveals showrunners David Benioff and D. B. Weiss gave the character a new name in the scripts and no one was allowed to say 'Jon Snow' on the set.

Fans' wish came true in the latest episode of "Game of Thrones" when [SPOILER ALERT!] Melisandre brought Jon Snow back from the dead. While it wasn't completely a surprise since many had speculated about his resurrection, Kit Harington, who plays the character, and his co-stars had remained tight-lipped about his fate.
Now that it has been revealed, Harington wants to apologize to fans for saying that Jon's dead all this time. "Sorry!" he says in an interview with EW. "I'd like to say sorry for lying to everyone. I'm glad that people were upset that he died."
He adds, "I think my biggest fear was that people were not going to care. Or it would just be, 'Fine, Jon Snow's dead.' But it seems like people had a, similar to the Red Wedding episode, kind of grief about it. Which means something I'm doing - or the show is doing - is right."
The show's crew and cast did try hard not to spoil this big twist. One of the efforts showrunners David Benioff and D. B. Weiss took to keep it under wraps was replacing the name "Jon Snow" with "LC," which stood for "Lord Commander." Harington shares, "No one was allowed to say 'Jon Snow' on set, ever, everyone had to refer to me as 'LC.' "
