Josh Charles may help "The Good Wife" bid farewell to viewers. The actor reportedly will return to reprise his role as the late Will Gardner in the series finale set to air May 8. According to TVLine, he will appear opposite Julianna Margulies' Alicia in a newly-created flashback sequence.

Will was killed off in season 5 as Charles exited the legal drama series because he was "ready to move on to the next chapter." He returned to direct an episode in season 6. Last summer, he told E! News that he "would love" to direct another episode.

CBS has not confirmed Charles' return. Back in February, showrunners Michelle and Robert King teased the return of some familiar faces for the final season, such as private investigator Robyn Burdine (Jess Weixler) and Kurt McVeigh (Gary Cole), but said that Kalinda (Archie Panjabi) and Will were unlikely to return.

"Kalinda went off deliberately to disappear - and we're honoring that choice. It wouldn't make sense for her to come back," said Michelle. She added, "Alas, Will Gardner's dead - which is sort of problematic."
