The rebel and 'rogue one' gets her first assignment from revolutionary leader Mon Mothma to take over the Death Star.

As promised, the first teaser trailer of "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story" was released on "Good Morning America" on Thursday, April 7. Besides giving away the plot, the trailer gives a proper introduction to Felicity Jones' aggressive and reckless character.

Jones' Jyn Erso is ushered through Yavin 4 base to face judgment from revolutionary leader/politician Mon Mothma. Erso's history of rebellion includes resisting arrest, forgery, assault and possessing stolen property. "This is a rebellion, isn't it?" Erso plainly tells Mon Mothma. "I rebel."

There's also an appearance of Diego Luna, whose character is yet revealed but looks like another rebellion soldier. Erso later gets a huge assignment: to steal the Death Star, a moon-sized deep space mobile battle station constructed by the Galactic Empire after the defeat of the Separatists in the Clone Wars.

Action scenes follow as Forest Whitaker's unnamed character says in a voiceover, "What will you do when they catch you?", apparently directed towards Erso. "...If you continue to fight, what will you become?" There's a report out there that Whitaker plays a bounty hunter in this flick.

Gareth Edwards directed the pic, which is scheduled to hit U.S. theaters December 16. Gary Whitta and Chris Weitz wrote the screenplay based on an idea by John Knoll. A spin-off rather than sequel, "Rogue One" takes place between the films "Star Wars: Episode III - Revenge of the Sith" and "Star Wars: Episode IV - A New Hope", during the Age of the Empire.
