Her husband said she died peacefully at 2:30 P.M. on Friday, March 4 at their home in Indiana, surrounded by family.

AceShowbiz - Joey Feek has died at the age of 40. The one half of country and gospel duo Joey + Rory lost her battle to cervical cancer on Friday, March 4 in her hometown of Alexandria, Indiana.

Joey's husband and singing partner Rory Feek announced her departure on his blog with an emotional post. "My wife's greatest dream came true today. She is in Heaven. The cancer is gone. The pain has ceased. And all her tears are dry," he wrote. "...At 2:30 this afternoon, as we were gathered around her, holding hands and praying.. my precious bride breathed her last. And a moment later took her first breath on the other side."

Rory also posted a photo of their eldest daughter Heidi holding on to Joey's hand in the final hours. "...our oldest daughter Heidi by her mama's side last night. Holding on and letting go," he captioned. There's also a video of the family watching Joey getting a taped surprise from Dolly Parton.

Joey was diagnosed with the cancer in May 2014, just three months after giving birth to daughter Indiana. The cancer later spread to her colon and was inoperable, so they stopped all treatment. The doctors said she could not pass Thanksgiving 2015 but she beat the odds by celebrating Christmas and Indiana's second birthday in February.

"When a person has been through as much pain and struggle as Joey's been through, you just want it to be over. You want them to not have to hurt anymore, more that you want them to stay with you. And so, it makes the hard job of saying goodbye just a little easier," Rory, who has been chronicling the struggle, wrote in the latest post.

Rory also revealed that Joey would be buried at the couple's farm house in Pottsville, Tennessee. "It's hard for me to imagine being there without Joey, but at the same time ... it is where she wants us to be. It's where she will be ... Joey will still be with us. Everywhere," he wrote.
