Ariadna Gutierrez can now thank Steve Harvey for mistakenly announcing her as the winner of the 2015 Miss Universe. Months after the embarrassing incident, which still gets people talking, the 22-year-old beauty pageant queen has landed a role in the upcoming "XXX: The Return of Xander Cage".
The casting news was first reported by TMZ and has since been confirmed by PEOPLE. According to both outlets, Gutierrez will play Vin Diesel's love interest. She joins other cast members including Samuel L. Jackson, Donnie Yen, Deepika Padukone, Nina Dobrev and Ruby Rose.
"XXX: The Return of Xander Cage" is the third installment in the action film franchise. It will see extreme athlete turned government operative Xander Cage (Diesel) coming out of self-imposed exile and on a collision course with deadly alpha warrior Xiang and his team in a race to recover a sinister and seemingly unstoppable weapon known as Pandora's Box. Recruiting an all-new group of thrill-seeking cohorts, Xander finds himself enmeshed in a deadly conspiracy that points to collusion at the highest levels of world governments.
The follow-up to the Ice Cube-starring "XXX: State of the Union" (2005) will open in U.S. theaters on January 20, 2017.
