Derek Hough is heading to Broadway. It's been revealed that the pro-dancer will be starring in an upcoming stage production of "Singin' in the Rain". But could his involvement in the play mean he is done with "Dancing with the Stars"?

The musical's producer Harvey Weinstein announced Hough's casting during the Weinstein Company's annual pre-Oscar party held at the Montage in Beverly Hills over the weekend. The 30-year-old star would play Don Lockwood, the role made famous by Gene Kelly in the 1952 movie of the same name.

There have been speculations that Hough won't compete in the dancing show's season 22 so he can focus on his new gig. A major Broadway production will usually take up a lot of time, so he probably won't participate in season 23 and 24 either, if ABC renews the show.

Last year, Hough tried to still appear alongside partner Nastia Liukin on "DWTS" in between his performances in Weinstein's "New York Spring Spectacular" at Radio City Music Hall. He needed to fly back and forth between Los Angeles and New York, and it was a big problem for their rehearsals. The pair ended up finishing in fourth place.

"Singin' in the Rain" won't open on until January 2017. The 22nd season of "DWTS", meanwhile, begins on March 21 on ABC. The full cast will be revealed on March 8 on "Good Morning America".
