The LGBT media advocacy group has unleashed the list of nominees for its 27th annual GLAAD Media Awards. LGBT film "Carol", which starred Cate Blanchett and Rooney Mara, is nominated in Outstanding Film - Wide Release, facing off against four other movies. Eddie Redmayne's "The Danish Girl", drug film "Dope", Julianne Moore's lesbian movie "Freeheld" and Laverne Cox's "Grandma" are vying for the same award.

In Outstanding Film - Limited Release category, there are "Tangerine" and "Appropriate Behavior". Other indie movies such as "52 Tuesdays", "Boy Meets Girl" and "Drunktown's Finest" are also nominated in the same category.

"For nearly three decades, the GLAAD Media Awards have propelled inclusion in media and driven LGBT acceptance forward," said GLAAD CEO & President Sarah Kate Ellis. "This year's nominees have raised the bar for creating thoughtful and diverse LGBT images and storylines, deepening audiences' understanding of LGBT people and accelerating acceptance across the world."

Overall, there are 31 categories to honor media for their representations of the LGBT community and the issues that influence their lives. All winners including those in TV categories will be announced at ceremonies that will be held on April 2 at The Beverly Hilton and on May 14 at the Waldorf-Astoria in Manhattan.
