"Creed" sequel targets a 2017 release date. "That's my goal," MGM CEO Gary Barber told Variety at the Golden Globe Awards where Sylvester Stallone won Best Supporting Actor for reprising his iconic role as Rocky in the first film which is led by Michael B. Jordan.

However, getting Ryan Coogler back at the helm for the second installment will be tricky due to scheduling conflict as the director has just been announced to direct "Black Panther" which is due 2018. "I know Ryan is going to be gone for a couple years," Sly said. "There's a diminishing time acceptance of a sequel."

Still, Coogler could be involved as an executive producer in "Creed 2". "Ryan has some ideas of going forward and backward and actually seeing Rocky and Apollo together," the actor explained. "Think of 'The Godfather 2.' That's what he was thinking of, which was kind of ambitious."
