Adam McKay and Tom McCarthy round up the nominations for Outstanding Directing picked this year by the Directors Guild of America.

Hot on heels of Golden Globe Awards, the Directors Guild of America announces nominees for the upcoming 2016 DGA Awards ahead of the much-anticipated Academy Awards. Winners will be announced on February 6. This year will mark the first time ever the DGA recognizes new filmmakers.
Alejandro G. Inarritu ("The Revenant") is in the running for the coveted best director prize following his big win at the Golden Globes. He is pitted against Tom McCarthy ("Spotlight"), Adam McKay ("The Big Short"), George Miller ("Mad Max: Fury Road"), and Ridley Scott ("The Martian").
Meanwhile, nominees for the best first-time feature film director are Fernando Coimbra ("A Wolf at the Door"), Joel Edgerton ("The Gift"), Alex Garland ("Ex Machina"), Marielle Heller ("The Diary of a Teenage Girl"), and Laszlo Nemes ("Son of Saul").
It's the third DGA nod for Inarritu. The helmer was first nominated for the Outstanding Directing in 2007 for "Babel". He became the first Mexican director to win a DGA trophy last year for "Birdman". On top of that, he later went on to grab the Best Director title at the Oscars.
