AceShowbiz - Jamie Foxx is reportedly joining Taron Egerton and Eve Hewson in "Robin Hood: Origins". According to Deadline, the 48-year-old actor will play Little John, Robin Hood's (Egerton) second-in-command, in the movie which will start production in late summer or fall.

The website notes that Foxx's character is a muscular "battle-hardened but war-weary veteran of The Crusades who starts out distrustful of Robin Hood... and then warms to the young hero in the gritty revisionist take on the legend."

Featuring a "gritty" tone, the script for "Robin Hood: Origins" is written by Joby Harold, who previously penned Guy Ritchie's revisionist take on Camelot titled "Knights of the Roundtable: King Arthur". "Robin Hood" will be produced by Appian Way's Leonardo DiCaprio and Jennifer Davisson alongside Harold and Tory Tunnell through their Safehouse Pictures.

"Robin Hood" is said to center on the heroic outlaw who "returns from fighting in The Crusades and finds that Sherwood Forest is rife with corruption and evil. He forms a band of outlaws and they take matters into their own hands." Otto Bathurst is on board to direct. The official release date has yet to be announced, but the movie is expected to arrive in North America in 2017.
