Kathryn Bigelow and K'naan are joining forces to bring "The Recruiters" to HBO. The Oscar-winning director and the rapper/poet are developing a Jihadi recruitment drama for the premium cable channel.

Based on an original idea, the project is set in Minnesota and "will draw open an iron curtain behind which viewers will see the highly impenetrable world of Jihadi recruitment," The Hollywood Reporter reports.

K'naan will pen the script, executive produce and direct the project if it goes to pilot. Bigelow and Carolyn Strauss will also executive produce the drama.

Bigelow, who won two Academy Awards for directing and producing "The Hurt Locker", previously directed 2010's drama pilot "The Miraculous Year" for HBO, but it didn't move forward.
