The NFL and Pepsi announced the big news in separate Twitter posts sent out on Thursday night, hours after rumors about Coldplay's headlining gig began swirling.

AceShowbiz - Coldplay is officially the headliner for the Super Bowl 50 halftime show. Confirming rumors which started swirling earlier on Thursday, December 3, the NFL took to Twitter later that day to announce the big news.
"Viva! It's official: @Coldplay will be performing at the @Pepsi @SuperBowl 50 Halftime Show! #PepsiHalftime," they wrote in a tweet that came along with a picture of the British quartet. Pepsi additionally shared via their own Twitter account a video of frontman Chris Martin sharing his excitement.

"It's gonna be wonderful and I hope you'll see that," he says in front of the camera before the clip shows some preparations he and his bandmates had made long before the NFL made the announcement.
Coldplay is currently gearing up to release their new album "A Head Full of Dreams", which is coming out this Friday, December 4. The record features a collaboration with Beyonce Knowles, so everyone is now hoping the Queen Bey will make a cameo when Coldplay takes the stage at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara, California on Sunday, February 7, 2016.
