"Chuffed to hear that 'Thinking Out Loud' has had half a billion plays on Spotify," Sheeran responded to the news in a statement. "Being the first artist to hit that milestone is amazing. According to Spotify, around 19 million people listen to Sheeran on Spotify each month. His tracks have overall been streamed nearly 2.9 billion times and are included in 38 million playlists. He's the second most-streamed artist, beaten out only by Eminem.

Along with the announcement, Spotify also created a graphic called the Sheerio Index showing which countries have the most people listening to Sheeran. Denmark has the most Ed Sheeran listeners in the world, followed by Norway, Singapore, Sweden and his homeland, the U.K.
