Lena Dunham prefers Instagram to Twitter. The "Girls" actress told Re/code Decode's Kara Swisher on September 28 that she's no longer using Twitter but had someone else run her account because she couldn't bear abundant negative comments she received on the social media.

"I don't look at Twitter anymore. I tweet, but I do it through someone else," Lena admitted. "I don't even know my Twitter password, which may make me seem like I'm no longer a sort of genuine community user."

Though Lena practically left Twitter, she didn't want to remove her account because of her fans. "I really appreciate that anybody follows me at all, and so I didn't want to cut off my relationship to it completely," she explained. "But it really, truly wasn't a safe space for me."

"Even if you think, like, 'Oh I can read, like, 10 mentions that say I should be stoned to death' and kind of, like, laugh and move on," Lena added. "That's verbal abuse. Those aren't words that should be directed at you ever. And so, for me personally, it was safer to stop [using Twitter]."

Lena said that she opted for Instagram to connect to her fans because "it's a more positive community." However, she admitted that there were still some negative comments on the online photo-and-video-sharing service. She then recalled what happened to a picture she posted last week. The said picture showed Lena wearing her boyfriend Jack Antonoff's underwear. She thought the photo was funny. She explained that she had to wear Jack's underwear as her dog ate all of her underpants.

"It wasn't a graphic picture," the 29-year-old actress said. "I was wearing men's boxers and it turned into the most rabid, disgusting debate about women's bodies, and my Instagram page was somehow the hub for misogynists for the afternoon."
