Robert De Niro looks exactly like Bernie Madoff in a first picture from HBO's "The Wizard of Lies". The image also features Michelle Pfeiffer who is almost unrecognizable as Madoff's wife, Ruth.
Based on Diana Henriques' New York Times bestseller, the TV movie is described as a look behind the scenes at Madoff's massive Ponzi scheme, how it was perpetrated on the public and the trail of destruction it left in its wake, both for the victims and Madoff's family.
Hank Azaria joins the cast as Madoff's right hand man, Frank Dipascali, who was heavily involved in the fraud scheme. Nathan Darrow, Kathrine Narducci, Steve Coulter, Kristen Connolly and Diana Henriques are also supporting the telepic.
Directed by Barry Levinson, the drama film will premiere sometime in 2016.
ABC is also developing a miniseries about The Madoffs, with Richard Dreyfuss and Blythe Danner on board to star as Mr. and Mrs. Madoff respectively.
