How Cavanagh's role will fit into the storyline of season 2 now that Eobard Thawne has been erased from existence is explained and it involves an alternate world.

One of "The Flash" mysteries has been solved. The show raised a question when it was confirmed earlier this year that Tom Cavanagh would return as a series regular in season 2 although his character Dr. Harrison Wells, whose body was taken over by Eobard Thawne/Reverse Flash, was erased from existence in the first season finale.
Now, executive producer Gabrielle Stanton reveals how Cavanagh's role will fit into the storyline of season 2. "Harrison Wells will be back, but he's going to be a very different Harrison Wells than we've seen before," he tells TVLine.
It's made possible as the show is going to introduce multiverse. "We've got other worlds. We've got other timelines. All I'm going to say is he's from one of those places," Stanton further teases.
As part of the multiverse storyline, Jay Garrick a.k.a. Speedster will be brought into the fold. The original Flash, who is portrayed by Teddy Sears, is now featured in a new promo for the second season. He is seen warning Barry Allen (Grant Gustin) and his team at S.T.A.R. Labs that their world is in danger.
"The Flash" season 2 premieres Tuesday, October 6 at 8 P.M. on The CW.
